John 5

² In Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate, there was a pool. People called it Bethesda. Five covered walkways went around it.

⁶ Jesus saw him lying there. He knew the man had been sick for a very long time. Jesus bent down. "Do you want to get well?"

⁸ Jesus looked right at him. "Stand up. Pick up your mat. Walk."

¹⁰ The Jewish leaders stopped him. "It is the Sabbath! The law says you cannot carry your mat today!"

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found the man inside the temple. He said to him, "You are well now. Stop doing wrong things. If you do not, something worse could happen to you."
