¹ One of the Pharisees was named Nicodemus. A big leader among the Jews.

³ Jesus cut straight to it. "I am telling you the truth. Unless you are born again, you cannot see God's Kingdom."

¹⁴ Moses lifted up the snake in the desert. Remember? The Son of Man must be lifted up the same way.

¹⁶ This is how much God loved the world. He gave his one and only Son. So that everyone who believes in him will not die. They will have life forever.

²⁶ They ran to John. "Rabbi, remember that man you were with? The one across the Jordan River? The one you told us about? He is baptizing people now. Everyone is going to him!"
