Exodus 13

¹⁷ When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them down the road by the sea. That road was shorter. But God knew if they saw war, they might get scared. They might run back to Egypt.

¹⁹ Moses carried Joseph's bones with him. Long ago, Joseph made his family promise. "God will come to save you. When that day comes, take my bones from this place."

²¹ Yahweh himself went in front of them. By day, he showed up as a tall cloud to show the way. By night, he blazed as fire to light their path. They could walk day or night.
