Exodus 1

⁸ A new king rose to power in Egypt. He never knew Joseph. Never heard his story.

⁹ He spoke to his people. "These Israelites! There are more of them than us! They are getting stronger!"

¹¹ They put mean bosses over the Israelites. Bosses who beat them down with crushing work. The Israelites built storage cities for Pharaoh. Pithom. Raamses.

¹⁵ The king called for the Hebrew midwives. Women who helped moms have their babies. One was Shiphrah. One was Puah.

²⁰ God loved what those midwives did. The people kept having more children. More and more. They grew powerful.
