Isaiah spoke words of comfort to the broken people. Yahweh would lead them home! A voice cried out, "Make a road in the empty land! Fill up the valleys! Bring down the mountains!" Yahweh himself was coming. He was coming to bring his people home. Every step of the way.
Isaiah pointed back to the days after Egypt. Israel had no city then. They had no army. But Yahweh walked with them! He led them with a cloud by day and fire by night. He carried them through every danger. Even when they were stubborn and hard, he saved them again and again.
