1 Samuel 5

¹ The Philistines grabbed the Ark of God. They dragged it from the fight at Ebenezer all the way to their city Ashdod.

³ The sun came up. The people of Ashdod walked into Dagon's house. Their god lay flat on his face on the floor in front of Yahweh's Ark! Like a slave bowing low! They ran over and stood him back up.

⁴ The next morning they came back. Dagon lay face down again. But this time worse. His head was gone. Both hands were gone. They lay cut off at the door. Only his body was left.

⁶ Yahweh's hand crushed Ashdod. He broke them. Sores spread through the city and all around it.

⁸ They sent runners fast. They called all five Philistine rulers together. "What do we do with the Ark of Israel's God?" The rulers said, "Move it to Gath." So they dragged the Ark to Gath.
