1 Samuel 6

¹ The Ark of Yahweh sat in Philistine land for seven long months.

¹⁰ The Philistines did exactly what the priests said. They took two cows feeding calves. They tied them to the cart. They locked the baby calves in a pen at home.

¹⁴ The cart rolled into the field of Joshua and stopped next to a huge rock. The people chopped the cart into pieces for firewood. They killed the two cows and burned them as an offering to Yahweh right there.

¹⁹ But some men from Beth Shemesh could not wait. They lifted the lid. They looked inside Yahweh's ark. Right then Yahweh struck them down. Dead. Fifty thousand and seventy men fell. The whole town cried for days. Yahweh had hit them with a killing blow.

²¹ They sent runners to Kiriath Jearim. "The Philistines sent back the ark of Yahweh. Come get it. Take it to your town."
