¹ Up in the hill country of Ephraim sat a town called Ramathaim Zophim. A man named Elkanah lived there. He came from the family line of Zuph. His father was Jeroham. Before him came Elihu, then Tohu. They were all from the people of Ephraim.

⁹ After they ate and drank at Shiloh, Hannah stood up from the table. Eli the priest sat on his chair next to the door of Yahweh's house.

¹⁹ They woke up early the next morning and bowed down to Yahweh. Then they went back home to Ramah. Elkanah slept with his wife Hannah. Yahweh remembered her!

²⁴ After she stopped giving him milk, she took the boy with her. She brought three bulls, one big bag of flour, and one jar of wine. She took him to Yahweh's house at Shiloh. The boy was still very young.
