1 Samuel 16

¹ Yahweh said to Samuel, "How long will you cry over Saul? I said no to him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem. I picked one of his sons to be my new king."

¹² Jesse sent a man to bring the boy. He came in. Strong and full of life! His cheeks glowed red from the sun. His eyes shone bright. His face, so handsome! Right then Yahweh spoke. "Get up! Pour the oil on him! This is the one!"

¹⁴ But Yahweh's Spirit left Saul. A dark spirit sent by Yahweh came to him instead. Fear grabbed him and shook him. The spirit would not let go.
