1 Kings 12
1 Rehoboam went to Shechem. All Israel showed up to make him king.
16 The people saw the king shut them out. They yelled back, "We have nothing to do with David! Jesse's son gives us nothing! Go home, Israel! David, you take care of your own family!" Israel turned and left.
17 But Rehoboam still ruled over the Israelites who lived in Judah's towns.
20 All Israel heard Jeroboam was back. They called him to come. They made him king over all Israel. Only Judah stayed with David's house.
21 Rehoboam got back to Jerusalem. He pulled together Judah and Benjamin. 180,000 fighting men! They were ready to attack Israel and take the kingdom back for Rehoboam, Solomon's son.
