Job Suffers
Far away in the land of Uz, a man named Job lives a good life. He fears God and turns away from every wrong thing. His family is large. His servants are many. His animals fill the fields. Everyone around him knows Job as a man who does what is right.
Job's sons and daughters throw big feasts, taking turns at each other's houses. After every feast, Job wakes before the sun comes up. He offers sacrifices for his children, one by one. What if they sinned? He prays for them before anything bad can reach them.
In heaven, the sons of God come before Yahweh's throne. Satan walks in among them like he belongs. Yahweh looks at him. "Where have you been?" Satan smiles. "Walking up and down the earth. Looking around. Watching everything." His voice is smooth and sure.
