Numbers 21

King Arad ruled the people of Canaan down south in the dry Negev land. He heard Israel was coming on the Atharim road. He hit them hard. Grabbed some as prisoners.

Israel made a promise to Yahweh, deep and serious: "If you give us the win over these people, we will burn their towns. Every last one."

Israel left Mount Hor behind. They headed toward the Red Sea to go around Edom. The long walk wore them down. Tired. Angry.

Yahweh sent snakes into the camp. Deadly ones. The snakes bit people. Many dropped dead.

The people ran to Moses, crying, "We sinned! We threw words at Yahweh and at you! Please! Pray! Ask Yahweh to take these snakes away!" Moses prayed.
