Luke 2
Around that time, Caesar Augustus gave a command. Every person in the whole empire had to sign up and be counted.
Joseph traveled too. He left Nazareth in Galilee. He walked south to Judea. He went to Bethlehem, the town of David. He went there because his family came from David's line.
While they were in that town, the time came. The baby was ready to be born.
She gave birth to her first son. She wrapped him up tight in strips of cloth. She laid him down in a feeding box for animals. There was no room for them anywhere else.
Outside the town, shepherds stayed out in the fields all night. They watched over their sheep under the stars.
