Jeremiah 38

¹ Four leaders heard what Jeremiah was saying to the people. Shephatiah son of Mattan. Gedaliah son of Pashhur. Jucal son of Shelemiah. Pashhur son of Malchijah.

⁶ They grabbed Jeremiah. They threw him in a deep pit. The pit of Malchijah, the king's son. It sat in the guard's yard. They used ropes to lower him down. No water in the pit. Just thick mud. Jeremiah sank into it.

⁷ A man named Ebedmelech heard what they did. He was from Ethiopia. He worked in the king's house. He heard they threw Jeremiah in the pit. Right then the king was sitting at the Benjamin Gate.
