Jerusalem Falls
Babylon's army closed in on Jerusalem. The heavy gates slammed shut. Families hid what little food they had in secret places. Soldiers climbed the walls and took their spots. Outside, Babylon stacked dirt and wood into siege works, higher and higher, day after day. The trap was closing tight.
The officials made a choice. Jeremiah had to be stopped. His warnings made people want to give up during the siege. They went to the king. Let us kill him! The king waved his hand. Do what you want. The men grabbed Jeremiah and dragged him away.
They lowered Jeremiah on ropes into a deep pit. No water waited at the bottom — only thick, dark mud. He sank in up to his waist. They dropped the ropes and walked away. Above him, one small circle of light showed the opening, far out of reach.
