Deuteronomy 1

¹ Moses spoke these words to all of Israel. They stood on the east side of the Jordan in the desert, in the hot dry land that spreads out flat. They camped across from Suf, somewhere between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹⁹ Then we left Horeb. We walked through that huge scary desert, you saw it with your own eyes! We headed toward the Amorite hills, just like Yahweh our God told us. We made it to Kadesh Barnea.

²² But all of you came up to me. You said, "Let's send men ahead of us first. They can look over the land. Then they can come back and tell us which road to take and what towns we'll find."
