Desert Rebellion

Yahweh told Moses to count every man who could fight. A leader from each tribe helped with the count. Then the tribes set up camp in a big open square with the Tabernacle in the middle. Each tribe had its own flag, its own spot, its own colors flying in the desert wind.

Yahweh pulled the tribe of Levi out for special work. They took care of the Tabernacle. When the camp moved, the Levites picked up every pole, every curtain, every piece of that holy tent and carried it on their backs. They camped close around it to guard it. No one else could touch it.

Moses stepped into the Tent of Meeting to speak with Yahweh. And there it was — the Voice. It came from above the golden lid of the Ark, from between the two angels that faced each other. Right where the blood would be put. Right where the law lay under gold. The throne room was open. The King was...
