Lost and Found

Jesus held their gaze. "One day the door will shut. People will pound on it and cry out, 'Let us in!' But the owner will say, 'I do not know you.' They will beg. 'We ate with you! You taught in our streets!' But he will turn them away." The crowd stood still. No one moved.

His voice rose. "You will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God's kingdom. But some of you will be thrown outside. People from the east and west, the north and south, will sit down in your places." He let the words sink in. "Some who are last will be first. And some who are first...

Pharisees rushed up to Jesus, out of breath. "Leave! Herod wants to kill you!" Jesus did not flinch. He planted His feet. "Go tell that fox this: I will keep healing today and tomorrow. On the third day, I finish My work." His jaw tightened. "A Prophet must die in Jerusalem."
