Elijah the prophet walks straight up to King Ahab. His eyes burn. No rain will fall on this land. Not one drop. Not until I say so. This is a war against Baal, the storm god. The sky goes still. The clouds fade away. Day after day, the ground dries up and cracks open.
Yahweh tells Elijah to hide by a small brook in the wild. Every morning and every night, big black ravens fly down with bread and meat in their beaks. Elijah drinks from the cool stream. But the land dries out more and more. One day the brook turns to mud. Then nothing. The water is gone.
Yahweh sends Elijah to a poor widow in Zarephath. She has only a tiny bit of flour in a jar and a drop of oil in a jug. Just enough for one last meal. Elijah asks her to feed him first. Trust me. The flour will not run out. The oil will not stop. She pours. The jar fills up again and again. It...
