After the Mountain

At the bottom of the mountain, a crowd waits. Voices are loud. Teachers argue with the other disciples. Then someone spots Jesus coming down the trail. People run toward Him. A father pushes through the crowd, and the pain on his face says everything before he opens his mouth.

A father threw himself at the feet of Jesus. His voice broke. "An evil spirit attacks my son! It throws him down! It hurts him over and over!" He pressed his face into the dirt. "Your disciples tried to help. They could not do it." Jesus looked past the crowd. "Bring the boy to Me."

They brought the boy close. The spirit saw Jesus and threw the child to the ground. The boy rolled in the dirt, shaking. His father dropped to his knees. "If You can do anything, please help us!" Jesus held his gaze. "If I can? Everything is possible for one who believes." Tears ran down the...
