Romans 7

¹ Brothers, you know the Jewish rules. So you know this too: The rules have power over a person only as long as that person is alive.

⁷ So what do we say? Are the rules themselves sin? No way! But the rules showed me what sin is. I would not have known what it means to want what is not mine if the rules had not said, "Do not want what belongs to someone else."

¹⁴ We know the rules come from the Spirit. But I am made of skin and bones. I have been sold like a slave under sin's power.

²¹ So I see this pattern in my life. When I want to do good, evil is right there next to me.
