Matthew 2
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a town in Judea. Herod was king at that time. Not long after the birth, wise men from the east showed up in Jerusalem.
They went around asking everyone, "Where is the baby born to be King of the Jews? We saw his star rise in the sky! We traveled all this way to bow down before him."
Herod called a meeting. He dragged in all the chief priests and teachers who knew the Scriptures. He demanded an answer: "Where will the Christ be born?"
Then Herod called the wise men to meet with him in secret. He pushed them hard to find out exactly when the star first appeared in the sky.
The wise men listened to what the king said. Then they left. And right there, the star they saw rising went ahead of them! It traveled across the sky until it stopped right over the place where the child was.
