Ezra 3

² Jeshua son of Jozadak stood up! His brother priests stood with him. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel stood up with his brothers. Together they built the altar of Israel's God! They built it to burn gifts on it, just like the law of Moses says. Moses, the man of God.

⁴ They kept the Feast of Tents just like the law said. Each day the right number of gifts. Each single day.

⁵ After that came the daily burnt gifts. The new moon gifts. Gifts for every holy day Yahweh set apart. And anyone who wanted to bring a free gift to Yahweh could do that too.

⁷ They paid stonecutters and woodworkers. They gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre. Those people would float cedar logs down from Lebanon by sea to Joppa. King Cyrus of Persia gave the order.

⁸ The second year came after they got back to God's house in Jerusalem. The second month. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak kicked off the work. Their brothers the priests and Levites joined in. Everyone who came back from far away jumped in! They put Levites twenty years old and up in charge of Yahweh's house.
