Daniel 6

1 Darius picked one hundred twenty leaders to watch over every part of his new kingdom.

10 Daniel heard about the new law. He went home. His top room had windows that faced Jerusalem. He threw those windows open wide! He got down on his knees, just as he had done every day of his life. Three times that day he prayed. Three times he gave thanks to his God.

14 When the king heard this, his heart broke! He spent the whole day trying to save Daniel! He fought until the sun dropped low! But he could not find a way!

19 At the first gray light of dawn, the king jumped up! He ran to the lions' pit!

24 Then the king gave a terrible order. His men brought the ones who accused Daniel. They threw them into the lions' pit, them, their wives, and their children. The lions tore them apart and crushed their bones before they even hit the bottom!
