¹ When Athaliah, Ahaziah's mother, heard that her son was dead, she got up and killed every single person in the royal family!

⁴ In the seventh year, Jehoiada the priest sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites and the guards. He brought them to himself at the temple of Yahweh. He made a deal with them. He made them swear an oath. Then he showed them the king's son!

¹² Jehoiada brought the king's son out where everyone could see him! He put the crown on his head. He handed him the scroll of the covenant. They made him king right there! They poured oil over him. Everyone clapped and roared, "Long live the king!"
