The Last Supper
Passover is near. The disciples ask, "Where should we get the meal ready?" Jesus tells them, "Go into the city. You will find a man carrying a jar of water. Follow him. Tell him the Teacher needs a room." They go. Everything happens just the way Jesus said it would.
The man leads them up stone stairs into a large room, already set and waiting. Soft light fills the space. The disciples lay out bread and roasted lamb. They pour the wine. They set every dish in place. Everything stands ready for the Passover — the last one they will share together.
The sun drops below the city walls. Jesus sits down with his apostles around the table. He looks at each face, slow and steady. His voice shakes. "I have wanted so much to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. I will not eat it again until God's kingdom comes."
