Abraham's Journey
Yahweh brought Abram outside into the open night. "Look up. Count the stars if you can." The sky was full of them. Thousands and thousands of tiny lights. "That is how many children you will have." Abram stood there under all those stars. He believed. And Yahweh counted that trust as being right...
Yahweh told Abram to bring animals. Abram brought a cow, a goat, a ram, and two birds. He cut the bigger animals in half and laid the pieces in two rows with a path between them. Blood soaked into the dirt. The smell hung thick in the air.
Birds dropped from the sky toward the cut pieces. Abram ran at them, waving his arms. He chased them off, again and again, all day long. The sun crawled across the sky. His legs hurt. His arms burned. But he kept watch. Then the sun began to go down.
