Genesis 22

¹ After all this, God tested Abraham. "Abraham!" God called. "Here I am," Abraham answered.

⁴ Three days of walking. Abraham looked up. Far away, he saw the hill.

⁹ They reached the place God told him about. Abraham built an altar stone by stone. He laid the wood on top. His hands shook as he tied up Isaac. He lifted his son onto the altar on top of the wood.

¹¹ "Abraham! Abraham!" A voice from the sky. Yahweh's angel. Abraham froze. "Here I am."

¹³ Abraham looked up. A ram! Caught in thorny branches by its horns. Abraham walked over, grabbed the ram, and gave it to God. The animal died in place of his son.
